The 1st and 2nd pictures on my blog are from an A2 exam project and this was my final piece. The piece is inspired by nature and the work of Sue Rangeley. For me the piece is about natural growth and beauty. I chose materials that I thought would imitate the natural oily sheen of fresh flowers.
The 3rd picture I have uploaded is a crafts project. The dolls are made with tea stained calico and machine embroidery. The embellishment is made using coloured organza.
The 4th picture is a study of flowers from my sketchbook. I often use watercolours, as I like the softer colours that you can achieve.
The 5th picture is a fine art identity project. This was a new challenge for me as a textile student but it was interesting designing something that I could put myself into and a meaning behind my project guided my work.
The 3 pictures that follow are mono print designs on paper appliquéd onto cotton. These are some of my favourite experimental samples as I think the composition and colours work well. I layered different printing techniques that created the textured pattern on top of my basic mono print.
The 9th picture is a paper dress project. The dress is made from printed papers and tissue paper. This picture shows the detail in the dress. I used pleating and stitch which brought the pattern to life.
Surface design was the topic studied when I made picture 10. My only brief was that the piece needed to se the letter M, using paint, paper typography and sequins I crafted my design which documents the tree stages of the moon.
Picture 11 is a Photoshop design. Using skills from graphics work shops I experimented with CAD and learnt to manipulate pictures in different ways to create a composition with a variety of surfaces.
The final picture is a 3d design based around the painting ‘Tree of Life’ by Gustav Klimt. This was a group project that was created in the art studio. The main ideas were theatrically influenced and look almost like a huge pop up storybook.
